COVID-19 vaccination centers in Karachi have reportedly run out of vaccine stock as Sindh and Punjab are facing acute vaccine shortage.
Karachi’s COVID-19 vaccination facilities have run out of various coronavirus vaccines most notably sinovac, AstraZeneca and Cansino.
City’s 24/7 vaccination facility established at Karachi Expo Center has also reported severe vaccine shortage.
In Karachi, around 90 vaccination centers are on the brink of running out of COVID-19 vaccine stock. District Korangi, Central, South, East and West all are facing vaccine shortage.
District-wise details of vaccination centers in Karachi is as follows;
- District West – 13
- District Central – 13
- District Malir – 8
- District Korangi – 8
- District South – 22
Sources say that several vaccination centers across the metropolis are only attending to people coming for their second COVID-19 vaccine jab as there is an acute shortage of AstraZeneca, single-dose PakVac, and Sinovac vaccines.
Meanwhile, in Lahore only four vaccination centers are currently administering COVID-19 vaccines in wake of vaccine shortage.
Vaccination facilities established at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute, Expo Centre, Minar-e-Pakistan, and Railway Dispensary are currently operational, said sources within Punjab Health Department.
The development comes as earlier SAPM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan had denied reports of vaccine shortage in the Pakistan contending that the country has more than 2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in stock and additional supply is being redirected towards vaccination centers which have reported an increased demand.
According to federal government sources, Pakistan will receive a total of eight million COVID-19 vaccine doses from China between June 20th and 22nd, of which 5 million will be ready to use vaccines, whereas the rest will be vaccine raw material sufficient for locally producing three million vaccine doses.
