Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday, temporarily suspends by-elections in the country till January 14th citing coronavirus concerns.
The decision to postpone by-elections was made in meeting presided by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and was attended by Secretary Election Commission, Secretary Local Government Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Secretary Interior, Secretary Law and other senior officials.
The meeting decided to temporarily postpone the by-elections for two, six vacant seats in National Assembly and Provincial Assembly respectively.
Furthermore, the forum discussed matters pertaining to Islamabad mayor election and local bodies election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed that the issue of release of 2017 census data by the government has been taken up with the law and parliamentary affairs ministries who have not responded to the matter so far.
In addition to it, delimitation in cantonment areas was also mulled over.
