In an interesting development, Spaniards are using ‘Donkey Therapy’ as an unorthodox stress reliever for health workers amid prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
A donkey farm in Huelva, Southern Spain is using providing its donkeys to healthcare workers to act as a stress reliever amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The project titled ‘Doctor Burro’ (Dr. Donkey), is aimed at allowing healthcare workers an opportunity to interact with donkeys and spend time with them.
“The Dr. Donkey project is an idea to give back a little bit, as a reward, a debt we all have a little bit to the health workers,” said Luis Manuel Bejarano – President El Burrito Feliz association (the happy donkey).
Under this initiative, healthcare workers interact, spend time with donkeys, pet them and feed them. The activity is aimed at diverting one’s mind and ensuring the provision of a healthy extracurricular activity for healthcare workers who have been burdened due to coronavirus outbreak.
It is pertinent to know that, healthcare workers, especially doctors, nurses and paramedics have been facing severe mental health issues as they have been on the forefront of efforts against COVID-19 pandemic.
Prolonged and extended working hours, lack of PPEs and other factors have significantly contributed to the mental stress faced by healthcare workers.
