New York: According to United Nations Chief, current coronavirus pandemic as the worst global crisis since World War II.
UN Secretary General António Guterres has warned that coronavirus pandemic might prove out to be the worst global crisis of the past hundred years.
Speaking at the United Nations headquarters he stated, “Covid-19 is the greatest test that we have faced together since the formation of the United Nations.”
Expressing his views on the COVID-19 outbreak, he said that this disease is a threat to every country and every individual on the planet and will have severe impacts on the world economy causing an unprecedented global recession.
Mr Guterres has reiterated the significance of globally coordinated response to curb the virus spread and to deal with its economic repercussions.
“A stronger and more effective response… is only possible in solidarity if everybody comes together and if we forget political games and understand that it is humankind that is at stake,” he noted.
The UN estimates that up to 25 million jobs could be lost around the world as the result of the outbreak along with 40 per cent ‘downward pressure’ on global foreign direct investment flows.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases around the world has surpassed 860,000, with more than 42,000 deaths.
