Lahore: Pakistan Railways has closed its Mughalpura railway workshop in Lahore till April 12 as Mughalpura locality has been declared a ‘red zone’ by authorities.
Authorities have closed Pakistan Railways workshop, along with four streets which have been sealed after four COVID-19 cases were reported in the locality.
Officials have initiated screening and testing procedure in the area to identify any further possible COVID-19 cases.
Mughalpura workshop is the oldest locomotive workshop of Pakistan Railways employing 10,000 workers in various shifts.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmad – federal minister for Railways, on Wednesday, that all employees of Pakistan Railways over the age of 50 and working in carriage factory – Islamabad, central diesel locomotive workshop – Rawalpindi and locomotive factory in Risalpur have been instructed to stay at home and have been given exemption from their duties without any cut in their salaries.
A total of 2,188 confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported in Punjab with 17 casualties.
