Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa met with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Mr Nong Rong at GHQ Rawalpindi, reported ISPR on Monday a day earlier.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Mr Nong Rong called on COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
During the meeting, COAS extended heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences to the government and the people of China, particularly the bereaved families regarding the recent Dasu bus incident involving Chinese nationals.
Army Chief said that Pakistan Army greatly values its brotherly relations with our time-tested friend and also assured full support / cooperation and security of Chinese citizens working in Pakistan.
COAS also stressed that while we work for peace, we need to stay strong to thwart designs of all inimical forces challenging our resolve particularly those threatening China-Pakistan strategic cooperation.
Furthermore, both dignitaries agreed on need for continuous engagement and coordination for peace and stability in the region.
A day earlier, Chinese envy and FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi had also paid a visit to wounded Chinese nationals being treated at CMH Rawalpindi.
It is pertinent to know that 13 people – including 9 Chinese nationals, two personnel of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) and two locals – were killed and 28 others sustained injuries when a coach carrying them to an under-construction tunnel site of the 4,300-megawatt Dasu hydropower project fell into a ravine in the Upper Kohistan area after an explosion on Wednesday last week.
Following the incident, PM Imran Khan had held a telephonic conversation with his Chinese counterpart – Li Keqiang over the matter.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed had held a telephonic conversation with China’s Minister of Public Security – Zhao Kezhi to exchange views over Dasu bus incident which claimed the lives of nine Chinese nationals.
