Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday, discussed COVID-19, polio virus situation with Bill Gates – Co Chairman and Founder Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), COAS General Bajwa and Bill Gates bout Pakistan’s COVID-19 response and resumption of polio vaccination campaigns in the country.
Bill Gates lauded Pakistan Army’s contribution and role in facilitating national polio vaccination drives through involvement of community leaders and influencers, said ISPR.
Meanwhile, Army Chief underscored that the anti-polio campaigns are a national initiative and noted that the efforts cannot be concluded as successful unless no child is affected by the novel virus in the country.
General Bajwa credited grassroots workers including the mobile teams, Law Enforcement Agencies and health representatives for the success of anti-polio initiatives.
“Both also discussed the safe start and efforts needed to effectively conduct polio campaigns in COVID environment,” read the statement issued by ISPR.
Furthermore, Bill Gates acknowledged Pakistan’s success in tackling COVID-19 and carrying out polio immunization campaigns during the pandemic.
