Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has directed Karachi Corps to conduct relief operations and assist civilian administration in rain-hit Karachi.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Army’s Karachi Corps will assist people affected by torrential rains in Karachi and will set up flood relief operations in the metropolitan city.
“COAS directed Karachi Corps to step up flood relief operations to assist affected people due to recent rains in interior Sindh and Karachi,” said the statement issued by ISPR.
General Bajwa has directed troops to reach out to affected population and provide essential help to those in need, added the press-release.
The development comes as Karachi has so far been the worst affected area in Sindh due to heavy rains.
Several areas of the city have been flooded with rain water entering peoples’ houses due to clogged and insufficient drainage system of the metropolis.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad, Badin and various other areas of Sindh have also experienced continuous and heavy downpour resulting in severe flooding in low lying areas.
