Maryam Nawaz’s husband and senior PML-N leader Captain (Retd) Safdar Awan was released on bail in Quaid’s mausoleum sanctity case on Monday (today).
Capt (Retd) Safdar Awan was arrested in early hours of Monday from his hotel on charges of violating the sanctity of Quad-e-Azam’s mausoleum on Sunday a day earlier.
He was shifted to Aziz Bhatti police station of Sindh Police, whereas an FIR was registered at Brigade Police Station under Section 6 (convening of meetings or processions at the mausoleum), Section 8 (entry into mausoleum with weapon) and Section 10 (penalty for contravention of provisions) of The Quaid-i-Azam’s Mazar (Protection and Maintenance) Ordinance, 1971.
Safdar Awan was presented before the court. The court then issued directions of the senior PML-N leader to be released on bail.
PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, while addressing a joint press conference with JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and PPP leader Raja Pervez Ashraf, confirmed the release of her husband on bail.
Mariyum Aurangzeb has just informed me that retired Captain Safdar has been released on bail. Me and Captain Safdar will go from Karachi together, she said.
The development comes as earlier, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz, along with her husband Safdar Awan and a large number of party workers had visited and offered fateha at Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s mausoleum on October 18th.
