London: Boris Johnson has been shifted to intensive care in hospital on Monday evening, 24 hours after being admitted with Covid-19.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to the intensive care unit as his COVID-19 symptoms worsened after being admitted to St. Thomas’ Hospital, London.
The statement issued by Downing Street read, “Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the Prime Minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.”
Johnson was moved to the intensive care unit at around 7 pm Monday evening.
Foreign Secretary and the senior most cabinet minister, Dominic Raab, has been tasked by Mr Johnson to deputize for him ‘where necessary’.
“I’ve gotten to know him, He’s just such an incredible guy. Americans are all praying for his recovery,” said US president Donald Trump on expressing his views on hi counterpart’s health.
British government has reassured the public that the prime minister is being provided the best medical care possible.
“The government’s business will continue and the Prime Minister is in safe hands with a brilliant team at St Thomas’s hospital,” said Dominic Raab in a televised address.
United Kingdom’s tally of confirmed COVID-19 patients has surpassed 52,000 with 5,385 reported deaths so far.
