Britain has announced to provide £3.5 million in humanitarian aid for Balochistan.
During his visit to Quetta, Dr Christian Turner – British High Commissioner to Pakistan announced that United Kingdom will be providing £3.5 aid to Balochistan.
The humanitarian aid will be utilized to for a therapeutic food program for more than 41,000 women and children providing them with essential nutrients.
High malnutrition percentage and food insecurity have continuously plagued Balochistan. However, the situation has worsened due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The food program will cater to vulnerable women and children, providing with them vital nutrients, essentially giving the younger generation a healthy start to life.
With support to community outreach via healthcare and social workers, malnourished women and children will be identified along with pregnant women and new mothers.
COVID-19 has had a knock-on effect on food security in Balochistan, said Dr Christian Turner.
British humanitarian aid will be divided between World Food Program (WFP) and the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
Eventually 164,000 people are expected to benefit from the British aid program.
