London: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson – 55, who was diagnosed with the coronavirus more than a week ago has been admitted to the hospital on Sunday.
Boris Johnson had been practicing self-isolation since he was diagnosed with coronavirus, however he has been shifted to an unnamed hospital in London as a precautionary measure “On the advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the prime minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus 10 days after testing positive for the virus,” said the statement issued by Downing Street.
‘This isn’t an emergency admission’, said Housing Minister Robert Jenrick, who expects that the Prime Minster will be ‘back at Number 10 shortly’.
Earlier, on March 27, Johnson became the first leader of a major power to announce that he had tested positive for COVID19. However, has continued to chair daily meetings on the UK’s response to the outbreak, and has released several video messages during his 10 days in isolation.
United Kingdom has reported a total of 48,436 COVID-19 cases with 4,943 casualties so far.
