Wreaking havoc in the once proclaimed as the World’s largest democracy, Narendra Modi’s post-truth politics stretches out to the international politics followed by Kashmir coup heralding the disclosure of the modern-day Nazi before the World. Curfew, blackout; gravest of the human rights atrocities shove it in the face of the global human rights defenders when India revokes Article 370 to encroach upon the rights of the people of the valley as crafted in the international HR conventions and turns a deaf ear to the World calling for upholding humanity in the Indian-occupied Kashmir.
The Indian atrocities in Kashmir may not be new; they date back to the division of the sub-continent but the voice of the Kashmiris reverberates to reach more parts of the World now in the age of globalization as digital media, despite being marred by unprecedented blockades in the valley, facilitates bridging the gaps between people who join to voice for each other – even when divided by territories miles and miles apart.
Modern-day Nazi’s Hindutva-driven agenda goes defenseless with the Arab World highlighting and lashing out at the current Indian regime over its brazen Islamophobia in recent Twitter spats between the Twitter users from the Gulf countries and the Modi Bhakts [Modi’s followers as famously known].
Twitter has been the battle ground for series of fights among the Arabs and Indians lately. A barrage of tweets blew up from the Indian side stigmatizing Muslims and accusing them of a “conspiracy” to spread the Coronavirus after dozens of cases were linked to a congregation of Tablighi Jamaat, a Muslim missionary movement, at New Delhi in March. However, the Indian trolls fell into their own trap as notables from the Gulf countries came out thrashing the accusers over Islamophobia, pointing out the prevailing Indian atrocities against Kashmiris stemming out from their hatred against Muslims – calling for #BoycottIndia.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Kuwait government, a royal princess of the United Arab Emirates Princess Hend Al Qassimi, as well as a number of renowned Arab activists took to Twitter to call out Islamophobic hate speech by Indian trolls.
The reaction to hate speech has not been limited to condemnations on Twitter, Gulf countries in fact got their laws into action to reprimand and penalize at least six Hindus working in the Gulf region who participated in the hate speech against Muslims.
What unfolded in the aftermath has led India deal a more serious blow. While United Nations raised concerns over harassment meted out to the Muslims by Indians and UN Rights Chief warned of grave fallout against Muslim persecution, United States International Commission on Religious Freedom went on to declare “India as dangerous for minorities”.
The annual report of the US Commission on Religious Freedom implicates India as dangerous country for minorities has included the country in the Countries of Particular Concern (CPC) list, along with warning the Hindutva-inspired regime to be included in the Black List, in case the harassment against Muslims continues.
Meanwhile, in another alarming development for India, American President Donald Trump and the White House appear to have unfollowed the Indian Twitter handles. The incident has received much backlash and bad press wide and far. India’s democratic credentials are now under question globally. Deflection tactics like scapegoating Muslims in case of failures at handling Coronavirus have rather backfired to get the pressing issues, like that of Kashmir, into limelight. World’s message to the fascists at helm is loud and clear that victimization and communal bigotry can no longer survive under the camouflage of democracy.
