The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) cabinet approved the proposal of death penalty for child molesters on Thursday.
The bill was presented by Ahmed Raza Qadri – an Azad Kashmir Minister and cabinet member, and demanded death penalty for individuals found guilty of molesting children.

Furthermore, the bill also obligates the courts to announce their verdicts within 60 days in such cases, meanwhile an officer of the level of deputy superintendent will be in charge of the investigation.
The bill is expected to be presented in AJK assembly and will become a law once its passed by the house.

It is to be noted that child abuse and rape laws in Pakistan have been strengthen since the abduction, rape and brutal murder of six-year old Zainab Ansari back in 2018.
Zainab Ansari was a six-year-old Pakistani girl who was on her way to a Quran recital when she was abducted. Five days later, her bod was found, followed by medical examination, which confirmed that she was raped before being murdered.
The incident incited protests and outrage in Kasur, Punjab, Pakistan. The perpetrator was identified as Imran Ali, who was determined to be a serial killer responsible for seven previous murders in the area.
