Asim Saleem Bajwa on Thursday, announced his decision to step down as Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information and Broadcasting.
Lieutenant General (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa has announced his decision to resign from the post of SAPM on Information and Broadcasting following allegations of financial embezzlement, unexplained wealth, offshore assets, and using his influence for financial benefits.
The decision was announced by Bajwa himself while speaking on various television talk shows on Thursday.
Asim Bajwa said that he, after comprehensive family consultations, has decided to resign as SAPM on Information and Broadcasting.
He further added that he will later present his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan, and will request him to accept his resignation.
However, Asim Saleem Bajwa noted that he will continue to perform his duties as Chairman China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority.
The development comes as earlier on Thursday, Asim Saleem Bajwa took to social media to strongly reject ‘baseless’ allegations and propaganda against him.
“I strongly rebut the baseless allegations levelled against me and my family,” he tweeted.
He further released a four-page press release, comprising extensive details of businesses, assets and properties held by his children, wife and brothers abroad.
It is to be noted that Asim Saleem Bajwa has had been in spotlight after reports emerged accusing him and his wife of having undeclared, unexplained offshore assets, along with allegations of misusing his power and authority to gain financial benefits.
