Around 10,000 Pakistani expatriates living in UAE have been left without National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP).
As per details, due to the expiration of courier company’s contract, around 10,000 Pakistanis living in UAE have been left without NICOP – a standard identity document issued by National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) to Pakistani diaspora across the globe.
NICOPs were usually delivered via a courier company, however due to lack of planning on NADRA’s behalf has left more than 10,000 Pakistanis without the much needed NICOP for around a month.
Pakistanis who had applied for NICOP on December 22nd 2020 have been advised to postpone their visit to the Pakistani embassy in Abu Dhabi for collection of their NICOP.
It is to be noted that NICOP copies are an essential pre-requisite for Pakistani citizens living in UAE who are seeking visa renewals.
NICOP renewal costs around Rs 6,500 (150 Dirhams) to Pakistanis living abroad.
Pakistani authorities are striving to ink an agreement with another courier company to prevent any further delay in the delivery of NICOPs.
Pakistani officials in Dubai expect that 20 % of the NICOPs will be delivered within a week.
Pakistani citizens are advised to dial 02-4447800 (ext 233), or resort to embassy’s official website, social media accounts for further updates and information.
