Arif Wazir – a prominent figure of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), succumbed to his injuries from a drive-by shooting, and passed in Islamabad on Saturday.
The deceased was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting that occurred in Ghwa Khwa – Wana, when unknown assailants targeted him from a moving vehicle outside his house.
Arif Wazir was transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital, Wana, and was later shifted to Islamabad.
The incident comes after Arif Wazir was arrested by law enforcement agencies (LEAs) for delivering an “anti-Pakistan” speech during a recent visit to Afghanistan. He was released on bail a month ago.
The Wazir family had been targeted by militants in the past. In 2007, seven members of the Wazir family including Arif Wazir’s father died in a firefight with terrorists near Wana.
A first-information report (FIR), has been registered by the police.
There has been no immediate response from the government and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
