Pakistan received its second consignment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines comprising of three million doses on Monday (today).
This is the fifth batch of vaccines to be obtained under COVAX as Pakistan has received four consignments of various coronavirus vaccines under the COVAX programme.
Vaccines are key in the fight again Covid-19 and we encourage everyone to get their vaccine immediately, said Dr Palitha Mahipala – WHO Representative in Pakistan.
It is to be noted that COVAX initiative has delivered a total 8 million doses to Pakistan since May 8, including 2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca, 100,000 doses of Pfizer and 5.5 million doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines so far.
COVAX is a global vaccine-sharing program by the World Health Organization, the Gavi vaccine alliance, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). The program intends to supply a total of 17.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Pakistan.
Separately, Pakistan also received another 200,000 doses of the CanSino COVID-19 vaccine today, confirmed NDMA spokesperson.
