Two policemen are reported to have been gunned down by unknown assailants in the federal capital on Tuesday night.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mohammad Mohsin Zafar from Chakwal and Head Constable Sajid Ahmed from Haripur, were shot dead at checkpoint no 26 at Tarnol area of the Islamabad.
According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Waqaruddin Syed, the policemen were targeted by two unknown assailants on a motorcycle who fired around 16 shots from 30-bore and 9mm pistols. He also noted that there was a possible scuffle between the assailants and the policemen as ASI Mohsin Zafar’s uniform was damaged and there were other injuries on his face and body as well.
The police have recovered a 9 mm pistol and 25 rounds from the scene, while further investigation is underway.
