The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan, on Wednesday, extended its stay order against Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) inquiry in Peshawar BRT case.
The top court’s three-member bench headed by Umar Atta Bandiyal and including Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Qazi Amin heard the case and announced the verdict to extend its stay order in Peshawar BRT case, effectively barring FIA from its investigation into BRT project.
“We have to analyze specific things as judiciary including repeatedly redesigning the project on public money, delay in its completion, mistakes committed in it and transparency,” remarked Justice Umar Atta Bandiyal.
“Is there any conflict of interests in the BRT project? Was it launched without groundwork? Has the provincial regime spent billions of rupees on an incomplete project?” he added.

Prior to this, SC , on May 5, had extended its stay order against Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) verdict in Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) case, in which the latter had directed FIA to probe into possible financial corruption and administrative laps in the project.
In response the KP government had then moved to the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to challenge the PHC ruling, claiming that the SC had already stopped NAB from investigating the BRT Project and hence the case cannot be reopened.
The case has been adjourned for indefinite period on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s request.
