Punjab government has given its ‘go ahead’ to the establishment of South Punjab secretariat which will prove to be a cornerstone for the South Punjab province.
The headquarters of the new province’s bureaucracy will be established in Bahawalpur, whereas its police headquarters is expected to be situated in Multan.
Prior to this Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had already approved the appointment of an additional inspector general (AIG) police and additional secretary for South Punjab.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had previously announced that Rs 3 billion had been allocated for the establishment of South Punjab secretariat.

The development comes as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has been under intense political pressure from its South Punjab representatives and their local constituencies for the formation of South Punjab province as it was a key aspect of PTI’s manifesto in 2018 General elections.
