The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), on Wednesday, temporarily banned the widely popular online game Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds aka PUBG.
PTA, citing receiving various complaints from different segments of society regarding the possible negative side-effects of widely popular PUBG, which is a third person shooter online game extensively played in Pakistan and countries around the world.
“In view of complaints received from different segments of society, PTA has decided to temporarily suspend the PUBG game. PTA has received numerous complaints against PUBG wherein it is stated that the game is addictive, wastage of time and poses serious negative impact on physical and psychological health of the children,” read the statement issued by the regulatory authority.
“According to recent media reports, cases of suicide attributed to PUBG game have also been reported. Honorable LHC has also directed PTA to look into the issue and decide the matter after hearing the complaints. In this regard, a hearing is being conducted on 9th of July 2020,” the statement added.

The development comes as earlier Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed, on June 23, had recommended a ban on the online game after two teenagers committed suicide due PUBG.
It is to be noted that a 20-year old student of FC College University on June 20 after being prohibited from playing PUBG. This incident was followed by another suicide case as on June 23 Mohammad Zakarya – a resident of Henjerwal had committed suicide after he failed to successfully complete a ‘mission’ on the online game.
