Lahore: The Punjab government, on Sunday, has announced that all altruistic activities, carried out by various affluent individuals and welfare organizations in the province, must be channelled through Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
“It has been observed that widespread philanthropic activity in the province of Punjab is violating and compromising the public health safety and social distancing protocols issued by Government of Punjab for mitigation of COVID-19,” read the notification issued by PDMA.
The announcement comes as large number of people have been flocking to various spots and centres where ration and relief goods are being distributed. The decision to link ration distribution and other charity work with government authorities aims at the successful implementation of social distancing measures directed by Punjab government.
PDMA has warned that any violators will be subjected to strict legal action for endangering public safety.
Punjab has reported a total of 1,493 confirmed coronavirus cases – the highest in country, with 6 deaths.
