Additional Inspector General (AIG) Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon has said that strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty of aerial firing on New Year’s Eve.
Each year several people are injured on new year’s eve due to aerial firing which often results in multiple casualties. The injuries often cause permanent medical/physical damage to those affected by aerial firing.
In a statement, AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon said that anyone accused of aerial firing will face ‘attempt to murder’ charges.
We have removed the word ‘aerial’ from the term aerial firing and in case of any injury sustained from aerial firing, the individual will be charged as if it was intentional, he added.
Ghulam Nabi Memon advised the public to respect the law and highlighted that around 20-30 people are injured due to aerial firing each year .
As per police records, more than 12 people were injured and an innocent civilian named Subhan was killed back in 2017 due to aerial firing.
Meanwhile, 19 people including women and children were injured due to aerial firing in 2018 and 2019 each.
Around 14 people including a young girl were wounded in aerial firing on new year’s eve marking the start of 2020.
