For the first time in Skardu Airport’s history as well as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), six flights landed at the Skardu runway strip.
The development holds significant value as Skardu Airport is considered a far-flung runway strip and only five flights per week were operated in 2020 last year; hence landing of six flights on a single day is a remarkable achievement for both PIA, Skardu Airport administration and government authorities.
In addition to it, Skardu Airport managed to handle a total of 12 flights on Saturday July 24th today with inbound flights from Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot and Faisalabad landing at the airport.
CEO PIA Air Marshal (retd) Arshad Malik has expressed gratitude to PM Imran Khan Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and CM Gilgit Baltistan Khalid Khurshid for playing their due role in achieving this notable milestone.
‘Pakistan’s northern areas are the home to world’s most scenic landscape… its due time that these areas are brought to the limelight to Pakistan as well as the whole world’, said CEO PIA Arshad Malik.
PIA will continue playing its role as the national carrier in this regard, he added.
It is pertinent to know that PIA has significantly increased its flight operations to northern areas upon directives from Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan in light of the vision of PM Imran Khan.
Skardu Airport is now handling much more flights and passengers as compared to several other large facilities/airports in the country.
