Asad Majeed Khan – Pakistani ambassador to United States, has urged the world powers to heed to the plight of Kashmiris in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) amid a ‘double lockdown’ imposed by Indian authorities in the valley.
In an article published in the American newspaper ‘Washington Times’, Asad Majeed highlighted the plight of Kashmiris who have been subjected to Indian brutalities and inhumane policies of Indian government in IoK for demanding their right to self-determination and raising voice against state oppression.
According to Asad Majeed, Indian forces have imposed a ‘double lockdown’ since the emergence of COVID-19 coronavirus.
He wrote, “At a time when other countries are facilitating the free flow, exchange and sharing of information to fight the pandemic, India has imprisoned Kashmiris in an information black hole.”
“Now, the novel coronavirus pandemic has given India another excuse to impose a lockdown within a lockdown. Kashmir is, in effect, under a ‘double lockdown’,” he added.
Furthermore, the Pakistani ambassador also highlighted the anti-Muslim narrative supported by Narendra Modi led BJP government which have demonized Muslims by blaming them for coronavirus spread in the country.
According to Asad Majeed, the double-lockdown has effectively imprisoned the eight million population of the valley who are struggling due to the lack of access to essential medical facilities and other basic services.
He urged the world powers to take notice of the inhumane, discriminative and subjugating policies of Indian government against the Muslim majority population of Kashmir.
