Senior Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has resigned from All Parties Hurriyat Conference after a 27-year long association.
The 90-year old, in an audio message announced his resignation from the alliance/front which he founded back in March 1993 and has also served as its elected chairman.

“In view of the present situation, I resign from All Parties Hurriyat Conference. I have informed all the constituents of the Hurriyat about the decision,” he said.
however, the audio tape mentions no reason for his resignation from the political alliance.

The Senior Kashmiri leader has been tackling severe health issues for a prolonged time period. He has been inactive in Kashmiri politics in recent days and has been primarily confined to his home.
Born in Zeurmanz Village of Sopore Town of Baramulla district of North Kashmir, on 29 September 1929, was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on founded his own party by the name of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and has served as the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference – an alliance of 26 political, social and religious organizations for the Kashmir cause.
Geelani has been repeatedly criticised by Indian authorities for inciting violence in the region and working as offshoot of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan also openly supported Geelani, the three-member delegation from Pakistan High Commission led by Abdul Basit met Geelani at his Malviya Nagar residence in March 2015, Pakistan High Commissoner Abdul Basit assured Geelani of complete support conveying that the country’s stand on Kashmir remains unchanged despite regime change in New Delhi. Basit also invited Geelani for Pakistan Day function on 23 March.
