Legendary Qawwal Amjad Sabiri is being remembered on his fourth death anniversary, here on Monday.
Amjad Sabiri(46) was the son of renowned qawwali singer Ghulam Farid Sabri and nephew of Maqbool Sabiri, and he was continuing the legacy of his family.
Amjad started singing qawwalis at age of 12. Sabri continued his family’s legacy, he made frequent trips to the US and Europe where he earned the nickname of “rock star” of qawwali.
He was shot dead in June 2016 in Karachi’s Liaqatabad area, a densely populated neigbourhood where he spend his entire life.
Banned militant outfit TTP later claimed the responsibility was and said, it killed Sabri for committing “blasphemy”.
Amjad was laid to rest in Karach’s Paposh Nagar graveyard his funeral attended by the elite of Karachi and thousands of his fans.
Sabiri was the silent philanthropist and helping hundreds of families managing their households.
