Government officials have decided to seal 16 Union Councils (UCs) in Karachi in wake of the exponential increase in COVID-19 cases in these localities.
As per the details, 16 UCs of five towns in District West have been identified as COVID-19 hotspots and will be sealed to curb the virus spread.
Areas expected to be sealed off include UC-1 Bhutta Village, UC-2 Sultanabad and UC-3 in Kemari. In Baldia town UC-3 Islama Nagar, UC-4 Naiabadi, UC-5 Saeedabad UC-6 Muslim Mujahid and UC-7 which includes Mujahir Camp and Kokan Colony will be sealed off.
In Orangi town, UC-6 Ghaziabad’s Christian Colony, UC-11 Data Nagar’s area 7A/B sector 8 and UC-12 Mujahid Colony’s Millatabad, Gulfamaad Aligarh Colony will be sealed off.
Areas to be sealed in SITE area include UC-4 Metroville, UC-6 Frontier Colony sectors 4 and 5 and UC-7 localities of Banaras, Islamia and Subhani Muhalla.

In a letter written to Deputy Commissioner Karachi West by District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Shafique Ahmad, the latter has advised to seal off and enforce a strict lockdown in these localities.
The letter also mentions that 34 coronavirus cases have been reported in Gadap Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Khuda Ki Basti whereas UC 6 Surjani Sector has 37 COVID-19 patients. Meanwhile 20 coronavirus patients are under treatment in Kemari UC 1 and Saeedabad, 32 in Sultanabad’s UC, 37 in Baldia Town and Islamnagar, 134 in Saeedabad UC 5, 27 in UC 6 Mujahid Colony and 149 patients in Metroville area.
