The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan, on Tuesday, expressed concerns over the service standards in the efforts against coronavirus outbreak in the country.
During the hearing of suo moto case on coronavirus issue, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed expressed concerns over the standard of services being provided to COVID-19 patients.
He also cited the fact that recently an individual tested positive for coronavirus from a government run lab, however his test came back negative after being tested by a private lab.
CJP Gulzar Ahmed also stated that employees of Supreme Court Lahore Registry have also reported the same issue with their COVID-19 test results.
Prior to this, SC had raised concerned over the lack of transparency in the financial and resource spendings of federal and provincial governments.
Earlier, the top court on Monday, had ordered the reopening of shopping malls along with the markets and shops across the country that were sealed by the authorities over the violations of government SOPs amid virus pandemic.
The Supreme Court had also grilled National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) over the inability of the country to locally manufacture COVID-19 testing kits.
“Why has not our country gained the capability to produce its own testing kits?” the court remarked.
It is to be noted that the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan stands at 43,966 with 939 deaths so far.
