Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has opposed any amendments in NAB law and will not participate in the voting process.
Speaking at a talk show of a private news channel, Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed stated that he is a stern believer in accountability and will not support the amendments in NAB law.
He said that he has already informed Prime Minister Imran Khan that he will not participate in the voting process aimed at amending NAB laws.
Furthermore, expressing his views on NAB’s perception as being anti-opposition, Sheikh Rasheed reaffirmed that NAB’s perception of being pro-government will fade away soon, as the accountability bureau will investigate everyone accused of corruption and financial mismanagement from Karachi to Islamabad after Eid.
It is to be noted that the federal government has decided to amend NAB laws which will restrict NAB’s authority and will alter its SOPs, rules and regulations.
According to the proposed amendment NAB will no longer be able to investigate corruption cases which amount to less than Rs 1 billion and federal cabinet will be exempted from NAB inquires.
The new ordinance would also end NAB chairman’s authority for releasing the arrest warrant of an accused person, whereas special courts would be empowered to decide about the bail of people accused.
