Over 172 contestants (students) from 30 Universities of Sindh both public and private sector participated in Pakistan Universities Debating Championship, Regional Round of Sindh, organized by the Higher Education Commission Regional Center Karachi at NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi on Tuesday. The winners were awarded cash prices, shields and participation certificates.
Prof. Dr. Noman Ahmed, Acting Vice Chancellor NED UET, Karachi attended the opening ceremony of the event as Chief Guest.
Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, Member (Commission) HEC and Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Memon, Vice Chancellor Sindh Madresstul Islam University, Karachi graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest for Urdu and English sessions respectively.
University of Modern Sciences, Tando Muhammad and Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro were awarded trophies and cash prize of Rs. 100,000 each respectively winning the English and Urdu debate contests.

Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro clinched second position in the English debate, followed by Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences Nawabshah, which secured third position.
Similarly, Government College University, Hyderabad clinched the second position in the English debate, while Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology won the third position. The second and third position holders of each category also won trophies and cash prizes of Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 60,000 respectively.
In welcome address, Mr. Nazeer Hussain, Director General HEC Regional Office, Sindh, Karachi highlighted the significance of Pakistan Universities Debating Championship.
Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, Chef Guest of English Competition of the event congratulated the winning teams, expressing his confidence that the Pakistani youth have a great potential. Expressing his views, Chief Guest for English debates Prof. Dr. Mujeeb uddin Memon, Vice Chancellor, Sindh Madresstul Islam University shared that the Debating Championship is much more than a competition — it is a training ground for future leaders, thinkers, and change-makers.
The winners of the Sindh Regional Round will participate in National round proposed to be held next month in Islamabad.
