Additional Attorney General (AAG) for Pakistan Amir Rehman has informed the Supreme Court that the government is serious about pursuing the contempt case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
His statement came on Tuesday during a hearing on a contempt of court plea filed by the federal government relating to the May 25, 2022, long march, wherein Khan had violated court orders.
The hearing was conducted by a seven-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan and included Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan.Play Video
During the hearing, Justice Aminuddin questioned whether the government genuinely intended to pursue the petition. The AAG responded affirmatively, saying that the government sought a serious hearing on the matter.
Rehman further argued that the PTI founder violated a court order during the long march on May 25, 2022.
Justice Aminuddin remarked that if the court issued a notice, the PTI founder would have to appear in person and instructed the additional attorney general to seek guidance on presenting the jailed former prime minister in court.
