Washington: The United Nation’s Security council has unanimously backed and endorsed the US-Taliban peace deal signed on February 29.
Earlier, United states has called for a vote at the UN Security Council to endorse Washington’s deal with the Taliban that is supposed to pave the way to peace in Afghanistan through a permanent ceasefire and intra-Afghan dialogue.
The resolution has stressed upon the Afghan government to take proactive measures for the initiation of intra-Afghan dialogue and advance the peace process. The resolution also advocated for women’s right in the war-torn country.
The proposed intra-Afghan dialogue is meant to include all the stakeholders namely, various political segments of Afghan society, Afghan government and Taliban. The agreed peace-deal also includes US troop withdrawal as well as prisoner exchange between Taliban and Afghan forces.
