Two doctors working at National Institute of Child Health (NICH) – Karachi, on Wednesday, have tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus.
According to details, the two doctors at NICH have been diagnosed with coronavirus and are in quarantine along with their staff.
Dr Mehboob Ali Noonari, a member of Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) said that the emergency of NICH was temporarily closed and was disinfected after the two doctors working there were diagnosed with COVID-19.
As per various reports, around 509 healthcare workers are reported to have contracted the novel virus in the country.
Prior to this, according to a report issued by National Emergency Operation Centre of Ministry of National Health Services, 216 doctors, 67 nurses and 161 healthcare staff tested positive across the country. Of these, 204 were in isolation at homes, 138 were admitted to hospitals, 94 had recovered from the disease and eight doctors had died as of April 29.
Healthcare workers in have been on the frontline in this fight against coronavirus spread. They have been struggling due to lack of personal protective equipment (PPEs) as the country’s healthcare system has been overwhelmed due to continuous influx of COVID-19 patients across the country.
Pakistan has reported a total of 22,823 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 6,217 recoveries and 526 deaths so far.
