Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat told the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that he did not accuse Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of plotting his assassination.
The politician was summoned by FIA’s cybercrime wing in an inquiry regarding a tweet in which he accused the Punjab CM of orchestrating an assassination attempt against him.
Following the accusations, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Barrister Aqeel Malik filed a complaint against Marwat in the FIA.
Marwat, before the FIA, said: “I didn’t name Maryam Nawaz as mastermind of the assassination plot but MNA Naseem Ali, who has concrete evidences about the plot, informed me with indication.”
He also suggested that the MNA should be summoned to get evidence.
On March 9, Marwat on X wrote: “It is imperative to publicly acknowledge that ‘Maryam Nawaz Sharif’ poses a threat to my life, as she has orchestrated an ‘assassination attempt against me,’ which can take place at any time.”
He added: “An amount of $100,000 has been allocated by Maryam Nawaz Sharif to these assassins for the “execution of my murder.”
He also made these claims while speaking to a group of journalists outside the Parliament House on March 9, saying that the Punjab CM had hired “contract killers” to target him.
He also claimed that the alleged contract to kill him was not just a verbal threat but involved tangible financial transactions.
PML-N responsible if anything bad happened to me: Marwat
Later, while speaking to media persons outside the FIA office, the PTI leader said that PML-N would be responsible if anything bad happened to him.
However, he added that he would not be cowed by threats to his life.
Marwat further claimed that a man, who had fled to Dubai from Pakistan 15 years ago, was contacted by some people in India when the “Punjab CM asked them to do so to plan my murder”.
“I have audio messages which are both in Urdu and Pashto,” he added, urging a need to probe the audio messages.
The PTI leader said that politics in Pakistan had become dirty after May 9 as anybody can now be kidnapped or murdered. “Those in the PML-N are so powerful that they don’t want to see anybody raising voice against them,” he claimed.
