The Torkham border crossing at Pak-Afghan border, on Saturday, has been opened for the repatriation of stranded Pakistani citizens in Afghanistan.
According to the District Police Officer (DPO), the decision to open border crossing for stranded Pakistanis has been made on the instructions from the Ministry of Interior.
The DPO further reaffirmed that the Pakistani citizens returning will be strictly subjected to all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) recommended by healthcare experts amid COVID-19 outbreak.
“Entrants are transferred to quarantine centres for precautionary measures,” he noted.
It is to be noted that Pakistan has closed its border crossings with neighbouring Iran, India and Afghanistan in a bid to curb the COVID-19 virus spread in the country.
Last month, Pakistani government announced to partially re-open Torkham border crossing with Afghanistan on the request of Afghan government made on humanitarian grounds to allow thousands of Afghan nationals to return to their country along with movement of essential food items into the landlocked country amid virus pandemic.
