Unknown gunmen killed an independent candidate, identified as Chaudhry Muhammad Adnan, in Rawalpindi who took part in the February 8 general polls from NA-57 constituency.
Police told the media that the assailants opened fire at Adnan — a former member of the provincial assembly (MPA) — near Kachehri Chowk area, leaving him seriously wounded.
The wounded politico was immediately shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment, the police added.
On Saturday, the National Democratic Movement (NDM) chief and former National Assembly lawmaker Mohsin Dawar had sustained serious injuries in a firing incident during a protest against the delay in the announcement of poll results in North Waziristan.
