New Zealand’s all-around prodigy Rachin Ravindra has claimed the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award for 2023 on Wednesday.
Rachin Ravindra overcame South Africa’s pace sensation Gerald Coetzee, Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka and India’s batting prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal to win the coveted Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.
The young left-handed top-order batter from New Zealand exhibited stellar skills in white-ball cricket throughout the year.
He amassed 820 runs in ODI cricket during the year at an average of 41 as well as claimed 18 wickets at 46.61.
However, he proved his mettle during the ICC World Cup 2023 played in India, where he came out as a stand-out performer from his team.
Ravindra concluded the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 as the fourth-highest run-scorer where he accumulated 578 runs, only behind Virat Kohli (765), Rohit Sharma (597) and Quinton de Kock (594).
His tally was also the highest by a New Zealand batter in a World Cup, where he scored three centuries and two half-centuries.
Ravindra expressed his excitement to win the coveted award and get recognized by the ICC for his performances.
“It’s obviously a very special feeling,” Ravindra said. “Whenever you get recognised by the ICC for something it is always special.
“Reflecting back it has been a pretty whirlwind last year and having the opportunity to play so much cricket in so many different environments has been very special.”
