Transport associations, who have suffered heavily due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, seek to resume operations in Sindh with government’s approval.
Inter-city and intra-city transporters have urged Sindh government to formulate guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs), to ensure the provision of resumption of passenger bus service in the province.
As per the details, a transporter’s delegation headed by President Karachi Transport Ittehad Irshad Bukhari met with Sindh Education and Labour Minister Saeed Ghani. The delegation informed the minister that passenger bus service has been suspended for more than one and a half month now since the beginning of government imposed COVID-19 lockdown.
The ban on public transport has resulted in severe economic hardships on the people associated as daily wage earners with the public transport business. Transporters have demanded Sindh government to allow the re-opening of public transport businesses with healthcare SOPs to ensure the safety of both public and transporters.
Federal and provincial governments have already introduced economic relief packages for various sectors and industries, the delegation also appealed for the provision of an economic relief package for transport sector as well.
