Veteran Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, on Wednesday, passed away at the age of 53
Irrfan Khan was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital – Mumbai, on Tuesday, where he was being treated for a colon infection.
The Slumdog Millionaire actor was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour – a rare form of cancer, in 2018 and had been since receiving treatment in Britain.
His mother, Saeeda Begum – 95, also passed away earlier this week in Jaipur.
“It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him,” read the statement issued by his family.
“Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace,” it added.
Irrfan Khan’s career spanned across several Bollywood and Hollywood movies. Some of his famous works include Hindi Medium, Life of Pi, The Lunchbox, Piku, Jurrasic World, Blackmail, A Mighty Heart etc.
He is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikdar and two sons Babil and Ayan.
