CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah, in a video message, announced to restrict Friday and Tarawih prayers during the holy month of Ramazan amid COVID-19 outbreak.
Chief Minister announced that Tarawih prayers in mosque across Sindh province during the holy month of Ramazan will be restricted to 3-5 persons and requested other persons to offer prayers at home.
“I appreciate the support extended by Ulema to date, and urge them to continue to support us, as we all work together to overcome the coronavirus pandemic. May Allah guide us to the right path,” he noted.
Murad Ali Shah clarified that the decision to limit congregational prayers has been discussed with President Arif Alvi, and is not in contradiction with the 20-point agreement signed between federal government and Ulema.
Sindh government has persistently maintained its position supporting stricter lockdown measures, and a complete lockdown will be observed today from 12 pm to 3 pm.
Shah highlighted the fact that mosques will remain open across the province and their staff will continue to offer prayers.
Prior to this, Karachi’s leading medical experts, including Dr Abdul Bari – CEO of Indus Hospital, Dr Saad Niaz, a gastroenterologist at DUHS and others, had urged the government and religious leaders to review their decision to ease the lockdown directives and highlighted the significance of stricter lockdown in the country to contain the virus spread.
