Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman has clarified that clerics discourage any kind of lawlessness and support government’s efforts to curb the virus spread in the country.
In a telephonic conversation with Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, the prominent religious scholar expressed his support for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to extend the country-wide lockdown.
Mufti Muneeb along with other prominent scholars and religious leaders from all schools of thought are scheduled to meet on April 18, to discuss opening mosques for worship and congregational prayers during Ramazan and finalize standard operating procedures (SOPs) for mosques.
The federal minister has also approached heads of madrasas, Punjab Ulema Board and members of the Council of Islamic Ideology and invited them to participate in Saturday’s meeting at the President House.
Earlier, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, Mufti Taqi Usmani and several other prominent religious scholars, at press conference at Karachi Press Club, had called for the resumption of all congregational prayers including the five daily prayers and the Friday prayers, terming the government’s orders of allowing between three to five people for congregations as ‘impractical’. The lockdown imposed by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus was ‘not applicable to mosques’, they concluded.
