LONDON: UK’s University of Northumbria, Newcastle has officially awarded Maqsood Ahmed with Doctorate (PhD) degree to DIG Security and Emergency Services Division. He became the first officer to hold a degree in terrorism financing. The head of the security division received his degree during a ceremony held at Northumbria University’s Newcastle campus.
Professor Jackie Harvey, who was the supervisor of Maqsood Ahmed during his research on the topic of “Terrorism Financing in Pakistan” participated in the event.
Jackie Harvey is Senior Professor of Financial Management and Directorate of Business Research at Newcastle Business School. His research focuses on the area of criminal financial management, particularly money laundering. The research has been appreciated by international faculty and subject experts for its practical aspects, unique perspectives, and recommendations for dealing with terrorism and its financing.
The DIG Security and Emergency Services Division is the first Pakistani police officer to receive a doctorate degree in counter-terrorism financing, with the aim of exploring the factors influencing counter-terrorism policy in Pakistan. Dr. Maqsood Ahmed is currently the Director General of Sindh Safe Cities Authority. Northumbria University Castle is a prestigious, professional and world-renowned research institution.
