Karachi received another rain spell on Wednesday (today) with strong winds and heavy downpour in various areas across the city.
Heavy rains lashed different parts of Karachi including Defence, I.I.Chundrigar Road and adjacent areas, Saddar, Clifton, Bath Island, Gulshan Iqbal, Orangi Town and Landhi.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist monsoon currents from North Arabian Sea continue to penetrate into lower Sindh.
Sardar Sarfraz – Director Met Karachi, has said that sea breeze has stopped in Karachi low pressure is present over central India and due to circulation over the Arabian Sea.
PMD has predicted prevailing rain spell in Karachi to continue till July 16th Friday.
The development comes as Karachi received its first rainfall of this year’s monsoon season on Monday earlier this week.
The areas which received downpour include Malir, Landhi, II Chundrigar Road and its surrounding areas, Steel Town, Yaseenabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Numaish, Old City Area, Gadap, University Road, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Site Area, Nazimabad, Sohrab Goth, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Superhighway, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Korangi, North Karachi and others.
The metropolis is expected to receive moderate rain between 10-22 millimetres during this first rain spell.
The three-month monsoon season from July to September will saw an increase in rainfall in the south and north Punjab and Sindh, said the Met Office. The likely rainfall during July – September is 140.8 millimetres.
