CNG stations in Sindh have reopened on Monday (today) with a price hike of up to Rs 30 per kilogram after being closed down for a period of 12 days.
CNG stations in Sindh were closed on June 22nd last month due to severe gas shortfall and low gas pressure in the province and across the country.
However, CNG stations reopened with a significant price hike of up to Rs 30 per kilogram.
The significant increase in CNG prices has been attributed to the increase the General Sales Tax (GST) on LNG imposed in federal government’s FY2021-22 budget.
In Karachi, people have complained that the pump station owners have fixed the price of CNG at Rs 140 per kilogram, marking an increase of Rs 16 per kilogram increase in the price of the gas.
CNG Association of Pakistan has argued that as a result of increase in the LNG’s import price, and a hike in the GST imposed on LNG, the price of CNG had increased by Rs 30 per kilogram and Rs 18 per liter, depending on the unit it was being sold in any specific area.
