Geneva: World Health Organization, on Wednesday, rejected US President Donald Trump’s accusation claiming that the body was “China-centric”.
Responding to US president’s accusations, Dr Hans Kluge, the WHO regional director for Europe said, We are still in the acute phase of a pandemic, so now is not the time to cut back on funding.”
“Please quarantine politicizing COVID,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus – WHO head.
Earlier, US president Donald Trump had threatened to cut US funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) and accused the organization of siding with China on the issue of coronavirus pandemic.
“Yet, everything seems to be China’s way. That’s not right, that’s not fair to us, and honestly, it’s not fair to the world. I can’t believe he’s talking about politics, look at the relationship they have with China,” said US president Donald Trump at a White House press briefing.
Talking to the press, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that United States is re-evaluating its funding to the WHO.
Globally, around 1.48 million COVID-19 cases have been reported with 88,000 deaths.
