Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran khan is expected to visit Quetta on a day-long visit today.
The chief executive will be briefed on COVID-19 situation in the province and is expected to chair meetings with Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Governor Amanullah Khan Yasinzai.
The visit comes as the Balochistan government has been facing criticism for its poor handling of coronavirus crisis and its failure to assure the provision of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to healthcare workers.
Earlier, doctors and paramedical staff were baton-charged and arrested as they staged a protest in Quetta, demanding the availability of PPEs to ensure their safety amid COVID-19 outbreak. The issue was later resolved after successful talks between provincial government and Young doctors’ association (YDA).
Balochistan has reported a total of 212 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 2 deaths so far.
