National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) has decided to expedite COVID-19 vaccination process in Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
NCOC Chief and Federal Minister for Planning and Development – Asad Umar has announced that federal government will set up large-scale vaccination centers and mobile vaccination teams to ensure swift and timely vaccination against coronavirus in the regions.
NCOC’s decision to speed up inoculation process in Gilgit Baltistan and AJK is in wake of tourism season and legislative elections in GB and AJK respectively.
Pakistan is currently utilizing a total of six COVID-19 vaccines namely Sinopharm, CansinoBio, Sputnik V, Oxford AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinovac to carryout nation-wide inoculation drive against the novel virus.
It is to be noted that following NCOC’s approval, people aged 18 and above will be able to avail the walk-in COVID-19 vaccination facility from today.
As per NCOC statistics, 4,741,579 people have been partially vaccinated against COVID-19 with 2,540,238 people being fully vaccinated against the novel virus with the country administering a total of 9,559,910 COVID-19 vaccine doses in total.
Pakistan’s total COVID-19 tally stands at 938,737 cases with 21,576 deaths so far. A total of 873,543 people have successfully recovered from the novel virus, whereas 2,841 are still in critical condition.
