Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has adopted a Pakistan-sponsored resolution against Islamophobia.
Expressing his views at ‘Ya Rasoolullah Conference’ in Rawalpindi, FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi apprised that Prime Minister Imran Khan and him attended a special session of OIC – the 57 nation alliance between Muslim countries, and highlighted the issue of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate crimes in the west.
The session was also attended by the foreign ministers of OIC member states.
The forum unanimously adopted a resolution against Islamophobia which was in fact moved by Pakistan, said the foreign minister.
FM Qureshi also expressed grief over the death of four members of a Pakistani origin family in Canada in a ‘hate motivated’ Islamophobic vehicle attack.
The development comes as Syed Afzaal – 46, his wife Madiha Salman – 44, their 15-year-old daughter Yumnah Afzaal and Syed Afzaal’s 74-year-old mother were killed in Ontario, Canada after a pickup truck ran over them after the driver identified the group as ‘Muslims’ and intentionally rammed them.
Following the incident, PM Imran Khan had taken to social media condemning the incident and highlighted the issue of growing Islamophobia in the west. The premier also urged the international community to counter the threat posed by Islamophobia.
